The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the appointment of representatives across 12 international cities in a bid to draw global attention to what it described as “undemocratic practices” and alleged intimidation of opposition figures in Nigeria.

In a statement on Saturday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party had created a Special Representatives Network (SRN) across key global capitals to strengthen international engagement and promote what it called democratic accountability.

He alleged that since July 2025, there had been efforts aimed at destabilising opposition parties, weakening internal party structures, and restricting political participation.

According to him, the new network will serve as a formal channel of communication between the ADC and international actors, including foreign governments, legislative bodies, international media organisations, and diaspora communities.

Abdullahi said the appointed envoys will provide updates on Nigeria’s political environment, including governance concerns, electoral integrity issues, and alleged repression of opposition voices, while also presenting the party’s policy positions and reform agenda.

He added that the initiative is designed to position the ADC as a credible democratic alternative and strengthen its global engagement.

The party listed Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva, and New York as key diplomatic engagement locations.

Abdullahi also disclosed that the ADC would establish a national documentation framework to record incidents affecting political participation across the country, including alleged harassment, violence, arrests, and disruptions of political activities.

The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently decided to withdraw recognition from rival ADC leadership factions following a Court of Appeal judgment delivered on March 12.

INEC had said in a statement signed by its Information and Voter Education Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, that it would not engage any faction of the party or monitor its internal activities pending the resolution of a related case at the Federal High Court.

The decision has continued to generate political tension, with the Mark-led faction of the ADC calling for the removal of INEC’s National Chairman, Joash Amupitan, alleging bias in the commission’s handling of the dispute.
