Leke Abejide, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State at the House of Representatives, has admitted to supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while still a member of the ADC.

In an interview with Channels TV, the Kogi lawmaker said supporting the APC while being a member of the ADC is not a crime.

“My heart is in APC and in ADC. It’s not a crime. Because I have brothers that I cannot separate from me, who are in APC,” said Abejide.

The Kogi lawmaker also expressed his support and loyalty to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Since former Senate President David Mark and other opposition politicians defected to the ADC and adopted it as a coalition to unseat Tinubu in the 2027 election, Abejide has been vocal about his criticisms of the group. He claims they are not true members of the party.

Abejide also joined Nafiu Bala, another ADC member who claims leadership of the party and critic of the Mark-led faction of the ADC, in a protest on Thursday to demand recognition as the party’s chairman.

Bala and Abejide told Mark, former Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, former Vice President Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other new members who adopted the ADC as a coalition to “leave their party alone”, describing them as “hijackers”.

“If you want to come to a party, and it is not a fresh one, you should know that some people are there. Why don’t you meet with them first and discuss?” he said.

The lawmaker and Bala have been accused of colluding with the APC to stoke an internal crisis in the ADC and reduce its chances of fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential election, allegations which they dismissed.
