The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming he resigned from his position to pursue a governorship bid in Oyo State.
Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bolaji Tunji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ibadan that the reports circulating on some media platforms were fake and misleading.
Tunji urged journalists to verify information before publishing, noting the need for professionalism in reporting.

The reports had suggested that Adelabu resigned following President Bola Tinubu’s directive that all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections must step down by March 31.
The directive, issued under Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the INEC timetable for party primaries, requires affected officials to submit resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The President stated that the measure ensures compliance with electoral laws, transparency in the political process, and a level playing field for all aspirants, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to credible elections and strengthening democratic institutions.
