Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged residents to disregard rumours of school abductions in the state, describing them as the “handiwork of evil opposition elements.”

Adeleke said the state government had taken steps to strengthen security in schools and protect residents from any threats.

“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented,” the governor said.

He also advised parents and guardians not to panic, insisting that the alarm was false and intended to create fear and instability in the state.

The governor further addressed reports about armoured vehicles allegedly abandoned by the administration of former governor Gboyega Oyetola. According to Adeleke, the Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) have now been refurbished and are ready for deployment.

He said his administration inherited the damaged vehicles in different locations across the state and subsequently rehabilitated them for use in joint security operations.

“The Oyetola administration inherited the APCs from the Aregbesola administration. The last administration, however, left them to rot. My government has rehabilitated them, and the public will soon witness a new security plan to strengthen the security of lives and property in Osun State,” he said.

Adeleke warned against actions that could incite criminal activity, adding that the state’s intelligence network was monitoring border communities and had identified security hotspots.

“No stone will be left unturned to guarantee the security of our schools, pupils, residents, citizens, and property,” he added.
