Adeleke, Osun PDP Back Tinubu’s Second Term

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, along with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential race.

This endorsement follows recent rumours suggesting that Governor Adeleke was contemplating switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a potential move that met significant resistance from within the Osun State APC.

The decision to support Tinubu was formalised during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo.

A communiqué released after the meeting was signed by Governor Adeleke, his deputy Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, former governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and 24 other key party figures.

“I’m pleased to share the resolutions: I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.

“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognising him as a proud son of our state. PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State. I will continue to deliver on our Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication. The love and support from the people of Osun continue to inspire me. Together, we move forward,” he wrote.

The communiqué highlighted the crucial role of local politics and the opinions of grassroots supporters in influencing their political choices. It added that the rumored defection plan did not originate from Governor Adeleke himself and faced “stiff opposition” from APC members in Osun, who had publicly criticised him on social media and national platforms.

The communiqué further indicated that while PDP members initially felt uneasy about the defection, they ultimately decided to support the governor out of loyalty.

The party leaders reiterated that Governor Adeleke, his administration, and the PDP continue to be the most popular political force in the state, stressing that Adeleke, his administration, and the PDP are still the most widely accepted and favoured political force in the region.
