Nigeria will play against Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), tournament organisers have announced. The pairing was confirmed after the completion of the third round of group matches on Wednesday night.

The knockout encounter will be played in Fez, where the Super Eagles will battle for a place in the quarter-finals as they continue their quest for continental success at #AFCON2025.

The Round of 16 fixtures at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will be staged between January 3 and 6, 2026, across various cities in Morocco. The winners will progress to the quarter-finals, scheduled for January 9 and 10.

A total of 16 nations have progressed from the group stage:

Group A: Morocco, Mali
Group B: Egypt, South Africa
Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Tanzania
Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin
Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Sudan
Group F: Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mozambique

Nigeria finished top of Group C with a perfect record, winning all three matches to book a place in the Round of 16 in impressive form.

The Super Eagles will face the third-placed team from Group F in the knockout stage.

Round of 16 fixtures will take place across Fez, Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir and Marrakesh, the main host cities for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Jan 3 – Saturday

Senegal vs 3rd Place Group E — Tangier (16:00 GMT)
• Mali vs Tunisia — Casablanca (19:00 GMT)

Jan 4 – Sunday

• Morocco vs Tanzania — Rabat (16:00 GMT)
• South Africa vs 2nd Place Group F — Rabat (19:00 GMT)

Jan 5 – Monday

• Egypt vs Benin — Agadir (16:00 GMT)

• Nigeria vs 3rd Place Group F (Mozambique) — Fez (19:00 GMT)

Jan 6 – Tuesday

• Algeria vs Democratic Republic of Congo — Rabat (16:00 GMT)

• 1st Group F vs 2nd Group E — Marrakesh (19:00 GMT)

Any knockout match level after 90 minutes will be decided by extra time and, if still tied, a penalty shootout.
