In an interview with Nick Canon back in December, Akon revealed that  “It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025.”

The city which sits on a 2,000-acre piece of land gifted by Senegal’s President Macky Sall is expected to trade exclusively in digital cash dubbed AKoin. According to the singer, this would help Africans become less dependent on their governments.
