This marks a significant milestone for Al Hilal, as it is the first time in a decade they have progressed beyond the group stage, having finished at the top of Group A.

While the first leg will take place in Cairo, Al Hilal has expressed dissatisfaction with CAF’s decision to host the second leg in Mauritania. The two-time Champions League runners-up had previously requested to play the return match in neighboring Libya, which they feel would have been a more reasonable venue.

The winner of the tie, following the second leg in Nouakchott on April 8, will advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either last season’s finalists, Esperance de Tunis, or Mamelodi Sundowns.
