An Al-Shabaab suicide bomber attacked the Jaalle Siyaad military academy in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday, as confirmed by the government and witnesses.
The explosion occurred shortly before midday, though authorities have not yet released details on potential casualties, stating that security forces are investigating.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke rise from the academy area in southern Mogadishu immediately after the “heavy blast,” with security forces quickly sealing off the area.
Resurgence Concerns

Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it targeted foreign nationals who were training the Somali army. This incident fuels growing concerns about terrorist resurgence in the Horn of Africa nation.
Recent attacks by the group, including one on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy, suggest a renewed threat after militants were pushed back in previous years.
The same academy was targeted in 2023, an attack that killed at least 20 people.
