Amorim Relieved for Break Despite Man United’s Upturn in Form

Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that his Manchester United squad is stretched to “their limit,” despite their steady improvement, following a convincing 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.

Goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho ended their respective goal droughts, while Bruno Fernandes sealed the win at the King Power Stadium. Though United remain 13th in the Premier League, they have shown signs of progress after a rocky start under Amorim, remaining unbeaten in seven games, excluding penalty shootouts, and securing a Europa League quarter-final spot.

With an international break followed by the FA Cup quarter-finals, United will not be in action for the next two-and-a-half weeks. While the pause could disrupt their momentum, Amorim believes it is necessary for his depleted squad.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to stop when confidence is at its highest,” Amorim admitted. “But it’s clear my players are at their limit. This break will be good for rest and recovery.”

Manchester United have now beaten Leicester in all four encounters this season, including two wins under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy before Amorim took over.

Van Nistelrooy’s tenure at Leicester has been challenging, with the Foxes losing 13 of their last 14 league matches, leaving them nine points from safety. They also set an unwanted record as the first English top-flight team to go seven consecutive home league games without scoring.

“In both penalty areas, the difference in quality was evident,” Van Nistelrooy said. “It came down to efficiency in taking chances and defending key moments. Statistically, the game wasn’t too one-sided, but United made their opportunities count.”

With Ipswich only ahead of Leicester on goal difference and bottom-placed Southampton collecting just nine points from 29 games, all three newly promoted teams appear destined for relegation for the second consecutive Premier League season.

“The nine-point gap is significant, but we won’t give up,” Van Nistelrooy vowed. “We’ll use every opportunity to fight back after the break.”
