The Angolan Football Federation has appointed former Senegal coach Aliou Cisse as the new head coach of the national team.
Cisse, who previously led Senegal to Africa Cup of Nations glory, left his role as Libya coach on Wednesday after just 10 matches in charge.
Speaking at his unveiling in Luanda, federation president Alves Simoes said the appointment was a fresh start for Angolan football.
“Today is a day of renewal, a day on which we rekindle hope and reaffirm with conviction our ambition for the future of national football,” Simoes said.
The 50-year-old has signed a four-year contract, with the federation aiming for long-term growth and consistent success.
According to Simoes, the appointment was a vision for long-term growth and consistent success in Angolan football.
“It symbolises our firm commitment to competence, innovation and the ability to build a team that brings pride to our country.”

Cisse spent nearly a decade in charge of Senegal from 2015 to 2024, guiding them to their first AFCON title in 2021 after finishing as runners-up in 2019.
Angola qualified for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco as group winners but endured a disappointing campaign at the tournament.
They finished third in Group B behind Egypt and South Africa with just two points, missing out on qualification for the knockout stage on goals scored.
Angola’s best AFCON performances remain quarter-final finishes in 2008 and 2010. The team also made its only World Cup appearance in 2006.
Nicknamed the Palancas Negras, or Black Antelopes, Angola is currently ranked 89th in the world.
