Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has spoken about the car crash that killed two of his close friends, saying the reality of the loss has not yet fully sunk in.
Joshua shared his experience during an emotional conversation with UFC star Kamaru Usman in a YouTube video posted by Usman.
The boxer survived a crash on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway. The accident claimed the lives of Joshua’s friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who died at the scene.
Footage from the incident showed Joshua grimacing in pain as he was rescued from the damaged vehicle and taken to Duchess International Hospital for treatment.
In the YouTube clip, Joshua is seen inside a treatment room with bandages on his head and torso. During the conversation, Usman asked if the victims were sitting in the front of the black Lexus when it crashed.
“Obviously, two of my close friends passed away,” Joshua said.
“One was in the front and one was behind him, on the right side. They both passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet,” he added.

Usman responded, “I’m sorry for that man. Hey, you scared the world; I’ll tell you that right now.”
‘Life is short man, life is short,’ Joshua said. ‘And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time’.
“I know. It’s a funny way of moving things, you know? We thank God,” Usman replied.
He continued: “You scared the world. It’s crazy because, obviously, we deal with the haters and all the bull**** each and every time and it sucks that it takes something serious like this to really see how many people have their eyes on you.”
Joshua has since been discharged from hospital and has returned to the United Kingdom.

On Sunday, he broke his silence on social media, sharing a photo of himself with the families of the deceased. He captioned the image, “My Brother’s Keeper.”
