A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dike, a Port Harcourt-based lawyer, made the call while speaking to journalists on Monday, expressing confidence that the former Rivers State governor has the political capacity to drive a successful re-election campaign.
He argued that Wike had demonstrated a strong political strategy during his time in office and would be instrumental in securing victory if given the role.
Dike said that Wike’s appointment as campaign DG would pose a serious challenge to opposition candidates, citing his wide political network across the country and his ability to mobilise resources effectively.
He also claimed that the FCT minister has the discipline to manage campaign funds prudently and the energy to traverse the country in pursuit of electoral success.
“I have hitherto asserted that should the political wonder boy of Rivers State, Wike, become PBAT’s re-election Presidential Campaign Council DG, his opponents would be in trouble,” he said.
According to him, Wike has a deep understanding of grassroots politics and maintains strong connections with key political actors who can deliver results at the polls.
Dike further referenced recent political developments in the Federal Capital Territory, noting that Wike played a key role in the APC candidates’ performance in area council elections, even while still associated with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
He maintained that Wike’s track record in Rivers politics, including his role in successive elections, shows his effectiveness as a political organiser.
“Recently, he delivered the FCT Area Council election candidates to the APC. Even as a PDP member, the only one won by the PDP was under his rainbow coalition alliance. Senator Ireti Kingibe did not win even in her unit.
“It is, therefore, my fervent prayer that P-BAT should cherry-pick the star boy of his administration, Minister Wike, to be the Presidential Campaign Council DG of his re-election,” he added.
The APC chieftain added that the minister’s influence was evident in the 2023 general elections, where he helped secure victories across multiple positions in Rivers State, including support for Tinubu despite party differences.
