The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed comments by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who said his party would closely monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 polls.
APC’s Kano Public Relations Officer, Hon. Ahmad Aruwa, described Kwankwaso’s remarks as confusing and unnecessary, claiming the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader has lost touch with Nigerian politics.
“He is confused and has reached some level of age, beginning to lose track of Nigerian politics. I believe he already lost the election.
“He is not the legitimate leader of the NNPP, and he is not even a candidate of any party. So, who is he monitoring INEC activities for?”
Aruwa said that APC and the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had finalised all arrangements to ensure INEC’s independence.
He added that former Governor Ganduje had been fully briefed and was satisfied with the plans.

He accused Kwankwaso who was the presidential candidate of NNPP in the 2023 elections, of undermining public trust in the electoral system.
“He knows he won’t win, which is why he is making such remarks. We urge Nigerians to ignore him,” Aruwa added.
The remarks come after Kwankwaso, during the NNPP national convention in Abuja, commended INEC’s role in safeguarding democracy and pledged that the party would monitor its activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Let me thank all of you, especially those who came from far. I also want to appreciate the INEC representatives here today and, through you, congratulate the newly appointed National Chairman of the commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan. I want to say so far so good, we are keeping our eyes on INEC because its job is so critical that it can make or mar democracy in this country,” Kwankwaso said.
Aruwa reiterated APC’s confidence in INEC, emphasising that the party’s arrangements are complete and that attempts to discredit the commission are politically motivated.
