The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the upcoming 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State. This endorsement took place on Monday during a party gathering in Ado-Ekiti.
Opeyemi Bamidele, the leader of the Senate, initiated the motion to adopt Oyebanji, which Stephen Aribasoye, the speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, supported.
In his comments, Usman Ododo, the chairman of the congress committee, said that the endorsement reflects Oyebanji’s significant achievements in various sectors that have positively impacted the people of Ekiti, stressing that the APC is a party that values discipline, as demonstrated by the trust that the residents of Ekiti place in Oyebanji.

The APC national working committee (NWC) had endorsed Oyebanji’s candidacy following the withdrawal of Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo, the sole remaining contender after two candidates, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi, were disqualified.
After participating in the process, Oyebanji commended party members for what he described as an illustration of unity and discipline, adding that he was confident that the APC would secure a sweeping victory in the upcoming election.
