Arsenal’s teenage duo Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri played pivotal roles in a stunning 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday. The Dutch champions were outclassed, suffering their worst-ever defeat in European football.
Arsenal dominated from the start, with Declan Rice’s disallowed goal giving a glimpse of what was to come. PSV had a brief chance but squandered it, allowing Arsenal to open the scoring through Jurrien Timber. The Gunners then made it 2-0 thanks to Nwaneri’s brilliant strike, followed by Mikel Merino’s calm finish to further pile on the misery.
PSV’s only response came just before half-time with a penalty from Noa Lang, but Arsenal quickly snuffed out any hope with two more goals early in the second half. Martin Odegaard’s brace, combined with Leandro Trossard’s and Riccardo Calafiori’s strikes, sealed the emphatic win.
The result gives Arsenal a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg, while PSV were left humiliated, with their captain Luuk de Jong expressing his frustration.
