Arsenal fear defender Cristhian Mosquera will be sidelined for at least six weeks, compounding the club’s defensive issues.
The Spanish centre-back will undergo further tests to determine the full severity of the ankle injury he sustained during the 2-0 midweek victory over Brentford. Mosquera needed treatment after landing awkwardly and was substituted, with initial estimates suggesting a six-to-eight-week absence.
Manager Mikel Arteta said the summer signing from Valencia “is the one that is more complicated” and confirmed that additional examinations were scheduled.

Arteta also noted that William Saliba is “days” away from returning after a training injury ruled him out of recent matches, while Gabriel Magalhaes could be out until January with a thigh problem. Mosquera and Piero Hincapie have been covering for the duo, but Saliba’s return will be vital as Arsenal lead both the Premier League and their Champions League group.
The Gunners travel to third-placed Aston Villa on Saturday at 12:30 GMT, before facing Club Brugge on Wednesday, 10 December at 20:00 GMT.
