Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insisted on Saturday that his side will recover from the frustration of a dramatic 2-1 loss at Aston Villa, a defeat that opened the Premier League title race.

Emiliano Buendia struck Villa’s winner with the final kick of an enthralling match, ending Arsenal’s 18-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Earlier, Matty Cash had put Villa ahead, with Leandro Trossard briefly levelling after coming off the bench.

The rare setback, only Arsenal’s second defeat of the season and first since August, allowed Villa to move within three points of the summit and allowed Manchester City to close the gap with their game against Sunderland.

Despite the disappointment, Arteta emphasised that Arsenal have consistently performed in challenging environments and can handle the pressures of a long season.

“We went 18 games unbeaten, and still we are there, close to each other,” he said. “Now it is time to bounce back. We will learn from today, and it will make us a better team.”

Arteta also revealed further injury concerns, confirming that centre-back Cristhian Mosquera will be sidelined for several weeks following an ankle injury, compounding defensive challenges for the north Londoners.

Meanwhile, Villa boss Unai Emery has revitalised his side after a difficult start to the season.

Nine victories in their last ten matches have propelled the club into title contention, though Emery downplayed their chances.

“We are feeling better than two months ago, but Arsenal are favourites to win this title,” he said.
