Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his sympathy for Ruben Amorim following the Portuguese coach’s dismissal from Manchester United after just 14 months.
Amorim’s tenure was cut short on Monday following a period of friction with club leadership, ending the shortest permanent managerial reign at Old Trafford since David Moyes.
The sacking comes despite previous assurances from United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe that Amorim would be granted a long-term project similar to the one Arteta has enjoyed at Arsenal.

While Arteta overcame early struggles to lead his team to the top of the Premier League—currently holding a six-point lead over Liverpool—Amorim struggled for consistency, winning only 25 of his 63 matches and leaving United 17 points behind the Gunners.
Reflecting on the volatility of the profession, Arteta noted that managerial longevity depends heavily on unwavering support from ownership and, ultimately, consistent victories.
He described the exit of a fellow manager as a “sad” moment that underscores the unforgiving reality of top-flight football.
