Aston Villa rekindled memories of their famous 1982 European Cup triumph by defeating Bayern Munich 1-0, with Jhon Duran’s late strike securing a historic win on Wednesday.
The Colombian forward took advantage of a long pass from Pau Torres to lob the ball over Manuel Neuer, sealing Villa’s second consecutive victory in their first Champions League campaign in 41 years.
Bayern, who arrived at Villa Park unbeaten and in prolific form under Vincent Kompany, struggled to break down Unai Emery’s well-drilled side. Duran’s winner came 11 minutes from time, marking a significant moment for the English club in their return to Europe’s elite.

Over 40,000 Aston Villa fans, including Prince William, witnessed the triumph, with the royal congratulating Emery in person after the match. “I told him the best moments come from days like today,” Emery revealed. “I don’t know where we can go, but we will enjoy the journey.”
Bayern, averaging over four goals per game before the clash, were frustrated by Villa’s disciplined defence. Despite dominating possession, Bayern’s chances were limited, with their best effort coming from Harry Kane, whose header was denied by Villa’s goalkeeper, Emi Martinez.
Though Bayern pushed for an equaliser late on, Martinez’s heroics, including a critical save from Kane in stoppage time, ensured Aston Villa claimed a memorable victory.
