Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday received several political leaders, including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, along with other sympathisers at his Abuja residence, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.

The visits came as El-Rufai continues to draw public attention following his temporary release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he had been held since February 18 over allegations of financial misconduct.

He was reportedly released on compassionate grounds to enable him to participate in his mother’s burial arrangements.

Among the visitors was former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who commented on his release, alleging that the circumstances surrounding it suggested political interference, as shared in a video circulated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“To show you that the government knows what they’re doing, they just released him without a court order. El-Rufai’s charges are politically motivated,” Amaechi said.

Also present were former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), who joined other political leaders, friends, and family members to offer their condolences.
