Adamu Abubakar, the first son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned as commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
His resignation on Monday was addressed to Adamu Abubakar through the Secretary to the State government, but the reasons behind his departure were not provided.
This move comes in the wake of Governor Fintiri’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Monday night, Abdulaziz Jauro, the personal assistant and media aide to the former commissioner, said that Adamu Abubakar expressed his gratitude to Governor Fintiri for the opportunity to serve in such a significant role describing his tenure as commissioner as an “honour of immense significance” and assured the governor of his continued loyalty to the administration’s vision for development.

The statement further conveyed Abubakar’s appreciation to his father, Atiku Abubakar, for his moral support and blessings. It also expressed gratitude to the staff at the Ministry of Works and Energy for their professionalism and commitment to infrastructure development in the state.
Abubakar also took the opportunity to thank his community in Jada for their unwavering support, prayers, and encouragement throughout his time in office. While the resignation marks a shift in his role, Abubakar emphasised that it does not signal the end of his dedication to public service. He reiterated his readiness to contribute to the growth, unity, and progress of Adamawa State in new and impactful ways.
This resignation follows the recent political development in Adamawa, with 22 commissioners and special advisers defecting to the APC after Governor Fintiri’s switch from the PDP.
