Suspected bandits have attacked a National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, killing five personnel and injuring others.

The attack occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday when heavily armed gunmen stormed the facility under the cover of darkness, catching officers on duty off guard.

According to sources, the attackers entered the area covertly and launched a well-planned attack on the NPS office, killing five employees.

It was reported that several others had been injured.

Residents in the surrounding communities have expressed concern about potential future attacks as a result of the incident, which has caused fear and tension.

The National Park Service officers were attacked by unidentified gunmen, according to DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command.

“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on personnel of the National Park Service,” Ayanlade said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, was on the way to the scene.

According to Ayanlade, the police commissioner has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
