Bandits who abducted approximately 35 worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, have reportedly demanded a N100 million ransom for each victim.
Family sources and community leaders confirmed on Thursday that the abductors have made contact, using the victims’ phones to communicate the demand.
The Secretary of the CAC assembly confirmed the demand, stating that the victims were grouped by the bandits for negotiation purposes.
The traditional ruler of Eruku, Oba Busari Olarewaju, appealed for urgent government intervention to secure the victims’ release, though he commended the swift deployment of military personnel following the state governor’s visit.

However, the official security response contradicted the reports of the ransom demands.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the command had not received any official report of ransom demand and emphasised that tactical teams were actively engaged in rescue efforts.
This incident highlights the growing reach of organised banditry in Kwara, a state that was previously considered relatively safe in the North-Central region.
