Bandits have killed three people and destroyed several homes and food storage facilities in Dangoro village, located in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The state police command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar.

He said the attack occurred late on March 28, 2026, when heavily armed bandits stormed the community through the Nahuche District, firing indiscriminately and setting buildings on fire.

According to the police, security operatives, alongside local vigilantes, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into the bush, some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

The police said three people were killed in the attack, including a member of the Community Protection Guard, while five others suffered gunshot injuries and four sustained burns.

Several houses, silos containing food supplies, and livestock, including goats, were also destroyed during the raid.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene.

“The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to flee into the bush with possible gunshot injuries.

“Regrettably, three people lost their lives during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard.

“Additionally, five people sustained gunshot injuries, while four others suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.

“The bandits also burnt several houses, silos containing food grains, and livestock, including goats,” he said.

Abubakar added that the injured victims had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, where they are receiving treatment and responding well.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad, has assured residents of continued commitment to protecting lives and property.

He further urged residents  to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.
