Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a knee ligament injury that is expected to keep him out for several months.

La Liga leaders Barcelona confirmed on Sunday that the Denmark international had suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The club said the injury occurred following an unfortunate twist during Saturday’s training session.

In a statement, Barcelona revealed that Christensen will follow a conservative treatment plan rather than undergoing surgery.

Spanish media reports suggest the 29-year-old centre-back is likely to be unavailable for around four months.

The injury is also set to rule Christensen out of Denmark’s 2026 World Cup play-off ties against North Macedonia in March, dealing a blow to the national side.

Christensen joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022 but has endured a series of injury setbacks during his time at the Camp Nou. His current contract with the Catalan club is due to run until June 2026.
