Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed says his administration has allocated N112.7 billion to the education sector in the 2026 budget, as part of efforts to strengthen human capital development in the state.
He disclosed on Saturday at the combined eighth, ninth and 10th convocation ceremony of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau, where he reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving access to quality education.
Mohammed said education remains a key driver of societal development, adding that sustained investment in the sector is central to Bauchi State’s long-term growth strategy.
He noted that the state has consistently allocated over 15 per cent of its annual budget to education, describing the policy as deliberate and strategic.

The governor also revealed that N58.02 billion in the 2026 budget has been set aside for higher education, with N40.6 billion dedicated to capital projects such as classrooms, hostels, laboratories, ICT facilities and staff accommodation.
He outlined ongoing interventions at SAZU, including the construction of 20 classrooms, student hostels at both Gadau and Yuli campuses, staff quarters and improved security infrastructure.
Mohammed further stated additional measures, including regular salary payments, increased funding support, scholarship schemes, reduced registration fees, and respect for institutional autonomy.
He warned against actions that undermine academic standards, including drug abuse and sexual harassment, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.
According to him, universities must remain safe environments that promote learning, dignity and personal development.
The governor commended the university’s leadership and staff for their contributions to producing graduates who are already impacting the state’s workforce. He added that his administration is working towards building a self-reliant state powered by skilled manpower capable of competing globally, while assuring continued support for SAZU’s academic development.
