Bayern Sign Luis Diaz for €75 Million

Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool in a deal reportedly worth up to €75 million (£63.5 million), making him one of the most expensive transfers in the club’s history.

The 28-year-old has penned a contract until 2029 with the Bundesliga champions, following a successful three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield, where he lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.

The transfer fee, which includes performance-based add-ons, ranks as Bayern’s third-largest outlay after Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez.

Expressing his excitement, Diaz said he was “very happy” to join the German giants.

“FC Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help with my playing style and contribute to winning every possible trophy,” he said on the club’s website.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Diaz reflected on his Liverpool journey with gratitude and paid tribute to teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident earlier this month. “I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. We will never forget him,” Diaz wrote.

Jota had publicly shown support for Diaz during a personal crisis last year, when Diaz’s father was kidnapped in Colombia and held for nearly two weeks before being released unharmed.

Luis Diaz made 50 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool last season, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists. His 13 goals in the Premier League made him the team’s second-highest scorer behind Mohamed Salah.

The Colombian international arrives as a timely reinforcement for Bayern, who recently lost Jamal Musiala to a long-term injury and saw the departures of both Thomas Müller and Leroy Sane.

He is expected to slot into the starting lineup under new manager Vincent Kompany and could make his unofficial debut this weekend against Lyon.

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, described Diaz as a “complete package” who combines pace, versatility, and work rate.

“Luis creates real goal danger, is a tireless worker, and brings a high level of experience from both Liverpool and the Colombia national team. He’ll excite our fans,” Freund added.
