Austrian snowboarding veteran Benjamin Karl successfully defended his Olympic title in the men’s parallel giant slalom on Sunday.
At 40 years old, Karl staged a dramatic comeback in the final, overtaking South Korea’s Kim Sang-kyum to win by a narrow margin of 0.19 seconds. Bulgaria’s Tervel Zamfirov secured the bronze.
The victory cements Karl’s legacy as one of the sport’s greats in what is expected to be his final Olympic appearance.

An emotional Karl celebrated his fourth career Olympic medal—adding to his silver from Vancouver 2010, bronze from Sochi 2014, and gold from Beijing 2022—by roaring in triumph before collapsing onto the snow in relief.
