Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, marking their third attacking acquisition of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old forward joins the Premier League giants in a deal reportedly worth up to £74 million, with a guaranteed £66.3 million and the rest in performance-related add-ons.
Sesko, who has netted 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia, follows the high-profile arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as part of a major rebuild of United’s forward line after last season’s struggles in front of goal.
The Red Devils have committed the striker to a five-year contract, with the move subject to registration.
Speaking about his decision, Sesko said Manchester United’s illustrious history was a draw, but it was the club’s vision for the future that truly convinced him.
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon,” he explained.
The striker had also been a target for Newcastle United, but the Magpies once again missed out on their preferred signing, despite being able to offer European football this season.
Sesko said he was attracted to the “positive energy and family environment” he felt immediately upon arriving at the club, adding, “It is the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.”
He also expressed eagerness to work under manager Ruben Amorim and link up with his new teammates, confident they could achieve “the success that we all know we are capable of together.”
