American rapper and songwriter, Doechii, just had an even bigger year.
The rapper will be honoured at an event later this month after being named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, the publication said Monday.
Doechii is a newcomer to the rap scene, but her viral hits “No Scrubs” and “Denial is a River,” which peaked at number 21 on the Hot 100, have caused her popularity to soar.
Her 2024 album “Alligator Bites Never Heal” won her her first Grammy in January in the best rap album category, making her just the third woman to ever receive the honour. (She had also been nominated for both best rap performance and best new artist).
In an upbeat rendition of “Denial is a River” and “Catfish,” Doechii made her Grammy stage debut that same evening.

The Tampa-born musician has had five tracks, including her collaborations with Tyler the Creator and Jennie, appear on the Billboard Hot 100.
Before that, in 2023, Doechii was recognised by Billboard when she was given the Music Rising Star award. She follows Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande as the only other women to receive the Women of the Year award.
Billboard’s chief editor, Hannah Karp, commended Doechii’s “ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style, and spirit” in a statement.
Billboard’s Woman of the Year award has previously gone to SZA, Taylor Swift, Madonna, and Billie Eilish, among others.
Other honours will be given out at Billboard’s 2025 Women in Music event, where Doechii will be recognised. Erykah Badu will win the breakthrough award, pop artist Meghan Trainor will win the hitmaker award, and Jennie will be named the composer of the year. Aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long, Tyla, and Ángela Aguilar are all scheduled to perform.
On March 29 at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT, the event will be broadcast live on VIZIO WatchFree+.
