Tottenham Hotspur are examining the conduct of midfielder Yves Bissouma after fresh allegations emerged linking him to the use of nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”, manager Thomas Frank has confirmed.

The Mali international is yet to make an appearance under Frank this season and was previously dropped for repeated lateness ahead of Spurs’ UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain in August.

The 29-year-old, who underwent ankle surgery in October, has now found himself at the centre of further controversy following reports in The Sun last weekend, which claimed to show footage of him inhaling nitrous oxide. If the claims are substantiated, it would represent the second such incident involving the player in little over a year.

He had already been given a one-match ban at the start of the 2024/25 season after being filmed in a similar situation, which Tottenham described at the time as a “serious lapse in judgement”.

In England, nitrous oxide was classified as a Class C drug in 2023, making possession for recreational use a criminal offence under the law.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League fixture at home to Slavia Prague, Frank confirmed the matter was being handled internally but declined to give further details.

He said the club was addressing the issue and that he would comment publicly once the process had been concluded.

Bissouma is already unavailable for the European fixture, while Frank also confirmed that left-back Destiny Udogie will miss the rest of the year after suffering a hamstring injury in the recent 2-2 draw against Newcastle on December 2.

However, there was some positive news for Spurs, with forward Randal Kolo Muani returning to training on Monday after hobbling off in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Brentford.

That victory ended Tottenham’s four-month wait for a Premier League win in north London and eased some of the mounting pressure on Frank following a difficult run of results.

The manager said the team were keen to build momentum and improve consistency, adding that the aim was to build on the recent performance.

Frank also brushed aside questions about Tottenham’s prospects of finishing inside the Champions League’s top eight qualification places, insisting his focus remained firmly on the next match against Slavia Prague.
