Boko Haram militants have struck again in Adamawa State, attacking the Banga and Larh communities in Hong Local Government Area on April 15, 2025, resulting in at least six deaths, one missing person, and widespread property damage.
The attack claimed the lives of a vigilante, who died in a bomb explosion while trying to secure the area; two men who were shot dead in Banga; and a woman who reportedly died during the resulting panic. In Larh, two more deaths occurred under unclear circumstances.
An IED also destroyed a police vehicle from Garaha, though its occupants narrowly escaped injury. Residents described the attack as devastating and lamented the lack of sufficient protection.
A young boy from Banga is also missing, with his unanswered ringing phone raising fears of abduction, a common tactic used by Boko Haram.
An unexploded bomb was found in Banga, prompting calls for immediate bomb disposal.
This incident follows similar attacks in the Hong area just two months prior, raising concerns about the resurgence of Boko Haram and ISWAP in northeastern Nigeria. Residents expressed their feelings of abandonment due to inadequate security.
While local sources confirmed a delayed military response, no official statement has yet been released by the Nigerian military or police.
The affected communities are now mourning the deceased and searching for the missing, with increasing demands for stronger action to protect civilians from the ongoing insurgent threat.
