At least two people have been confirmed dead following a relentless downpour that unleashed devastating floods on Gumsuri and Wovi communities in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
The flooding occurred on Sunday after an unbroken 12 to 13 hours of heavy rain, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Many residents have been forced from their homes, with the landscape now marked by ruin and displacement.
Preliminary assessments reveal a grim picture — nearly half of all homes in the affected areas have been either badly damaged or completely submerged. Families, in desperation, fled to higher ground, abandoning their belongings as the waters rose.

Locals describe the situation as dire. They are appealing urgently to the government, humanitarian agencies, and well-meaning individuals for support. There is an immediate need for emergency shelter, food supplies, and medical assistance to help them cope with the disaster’s aftermath.
“We are overwhelmed,” said a community elder in Gumsuri.
“Many have lost everything. We fear more bodies may be found as search efforts continue,” he said.
Reports say that emergency response teams are working to get the full extent of the damage and to ascertain the number of casualties.
