BREAKING: Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olakulehin, Passes Away

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has died. The monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after serving for just one year.

Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin’s demise comes just two days after his 90th birthday celebration. He received the staff of office as the 43rd Olubadan from Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, succeeding Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.

The Olubadan throne alternates between the military and civilian lineage, it is expected to return to the civil line as Olakulehin is on the military line.

Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo and Otun Olubadan, is one of the 11 high chiefs in the succession line. He is expected to succeed Olakulehin.
