Multiple people were injured in a shooting at Brown University on Saturday, the Ivy League institution confirmed, as police continued a manhunt for the suspect and students were instructed to remain indoors.
In an emergency alert issued by the university, officials said they had confirmed reports of several shooting victims but were unable to provide details about their conditions. The university stressed that the situation remained active and that law enforcement officers were still searching for the individual responsible.
The alert said an active shooter was reported near the Barus and Holley Engineering building at around 4:22 pm local time. Several examinations were reportedly taking place in the building at the time of the incident.
Students and staff were ordered to shelter in place, with instructions to lock doors, silence mobile phones and stay hidden until further notice.

US President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the shooting, posting on his Truth Social platform that the FBI had been deployed to the scene. He added a message expressing sympathy for the victims and their families.
Police and emergency services quickly flooded the campus area, while local media outlets reported seeing bloodstains and discarded clothing on nearby pavements.
Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island, has a student population of approximately 11,000 and is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States.
The incident is the latest in a series of mass shootings across the country, where efforts to tighten gun control laws continue to face strong political resistance.
