The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed corruption allegations made by the Senegalese government following the controversial decision to take Senegal’s AFCON title and award it to Morocco.
Speaking in Morocco on Thursday, Patrice Motsepe said he would welcome any legal action on the matter.
“If anybody wants to initiate legal action alleging that there is corruption in CAF I don’t only welcome that, I encourage them,” Motsepe said.
“There’s nothing to hide. We respect enormously the judicial and legal sovereignty of every single one of our 54 nations on the African continent.”
He added that CAF would accept and act on whatever ruling comes from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“I’m confident that whatever the decision of CAS will say, we will respect it and we will implement it,” he added.
Motsepe’s comments come during a tense period for CAF after it overturned Senegal’s 1-0 victory over Morocco in the January 18 final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
On March 17, CAF ruled the match a 3-0 win for Morocco, citing regulations related to abandoning the field.
The incident happened in Rabat when Senegal’s players, along with head coach Pape Thiaw and his staff, walked off the pitch after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty. The penalty was later missed by forward Brahim Diaz.
