CAF Sets WAFCON 2026 Draw Date

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the final draw for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 will take place in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

CAF disclosed this in a statement published on its website on Wednesday, saying the draw ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT).

The continental body also announced that the same day will feature the unveiling of winners in several women’s football award categories.

“On the same day, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) will also announce the winners of the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year and other outstanding women’s football awards,” the statement said.

CAF noted that the 2026 tournament will be historic, as it will be the first edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to feature 16 teams, expanding from the previous format.

The qualified teams are hosts Morocco, Nigeria women’s national football team, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

Ahead of the draw, CAF said winners will be announced in three women’s football award categories: CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year, and CAF Women’s Club of the Year.

The awards were initially scheduled to be presented at the CAF Awards ceremony on November 19, 2025, but were postponed because the women’s football season had not concluded due to the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League.

CAF said it has reopened voting for the three categories, stressing that it does not participate in the voting process but only supervises and coordinates it.
