English Premier League side Chelsea has recorded a pre-tax loss of £262.4 million for the financial year ending June 30, 2025, the largest ever reported by a Premier League club.
The figure surpasses Manchester City’s previous record loss of £197.5 million set during the 2010/11 season.
The club had posted a profit of £128.4 million the previous year, largely driven by the sale of its women’s team to a subsidiary company for nearly £200 million.
Chelsea attributed the latest loss partly to higher operating costs during the 2024/25 season, despite generating revenue of £490.9 million, the second-highest in the club’s history.

The financial update also showed that Chelsea spent more on agents’ fees in 2025/26 than any other Premier League side this season, with a total of £65.1 million, well ahead of ‘second-placed’ Aston Villa’s £38.4 million.
Overall, top-flight English clubs collectively spent £460.3 million on agents’ fees.
The development follows the club’s recent admission of breaching Premier League rules over undisclosed payments linked to former owner Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea were fined £10.75 million and handed a suspended one-year transfer ban, though they avoided a points deduction after authorities cited their cooperation during the investigation.
The club was also found to be compliant with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the three-year period ending 2024/25.
Separately, Chelsea’s women’s team reported a loss of £17.1 million, despite generating £21.3 million in revenue.
