Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca received a one-match touchline suspension on Wednesday due to his dissent and excessive celebration following a last-minute goal in a 2-1 Premier League victory against Liverpool on October 4.

The Italian will be banned from the touchline during Chelsea’s upcoming away game against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.

He has also been fined £8,000 ($10,685), and the Football Association said that Maresca has fully acknowledged the misconduct charge.

He received a yellow card for protesting a penalty ruling and earned a second one in the sixth minute of stoppage time for exuberantly celebrating Estevao Willian’s angled goal during a tense finish.

Chelsea had suffered defeats in their previous two games before facing Liverpool at home, and the victory propelled them to sixth place at that moment, allowing the under-pressure Maresca to avoid a third consecutive league loss.

Maresca reportedly shared with the Italian media that his run down the touchline to celebrate with the players was “an instinctive reaction” and emphasised that it was worthwhile even if it led to his ejection.
