China will “adhere to the correct direction of economic globalisation” despite “fragmentation,” the country’s second-ranking official declared Sunday at a Beijing business executives’ meeting.
The China Development Forum meets amid a fresh trade conflict with Washington, as Donald Trump’s return to the White House threatens China’s expanding exports.
Since the end of the pandemic, Beijing has been working to stabilise the economy, increasing consumption in particular.
“China will firmly stand on the correct side of history, that of fairness and justice, and act righteously amid the rough times,” Premier Li Qiang declared to the Chinese authorities and international business titans.
The nation will “adhere to the correct direction of economic globalisation, practice true multilateralism, and strive to be a force for stability and certainty,” he said.
“Global economic fragmentation is intensifying today,” the Chinese premier stated, adding that “instability and uncertainty are on the rise.”
This year’s opening of the annual China Development Forum, which was attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook and other notable business leaders, featured Li’s remarks.
