Belgian coach Luc Eymael has resigned from South Africa’s struggling Premiership side Chippa United, becoming the club’s fourth coach to depart in just three months of the season.
Eymael, 66, who has managed teams in 11 African countries, took charge at the end of August but endured a poor run of results.
His tenure began with a 3–0 home defeat to Orlando Pirates, and he managed just one win from seven league and cup matches before stepping down on Wednesday.
Chippa United, currently bottom of the league, have seen an extraordinary turnover in coaches this season.
Sinethemba Badela was dismissed after only two matches, while fellow South Africans Musa Nyatama and Morgan Mammila were each sacked after just one game in charge.
Following Eymael’s departure, the club announced that South African coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi would return for a second spell at the helm as they seek stability amid a disastrous start to the campaign.
Founded in 2010 by businessman Siviwe Mpengesi — who famously made his fortune collecting and returning abandoned supermarket trolleys — Chippa United have become known for their constant managerial changes.
Despite frequent reshuffles, the club has repeatedly struggled to stay in the top flight, narrowly avoiding relegation on several occasions.
