Justice Joseph Oyewole will be sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The ceremony is scheduled for 2 pm at Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court complex in Abuja.
In a report by the Supreme Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Festus Akande, the appointment was described as aimed at enhancing the court’s capacity to deliver timely and fair judgements.
The court was reported to have said that Oyewole’s swearing-in, scheduled for February 25, reflects a broader commitment to reinforcing the judiciary and strengthening the rule of law by appointing experienced jurists.

It also noted that Oyewole brings extensive legal expertise and integrity to the bench, which is expected to further improve the quality and efficiency of judicial decisions at the highest level.
Oyewole, who was previously a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division, is joining the apex court bench as part of efforts to strengthen the court.
His elevation followed a recommendation by the National Judicial Council, which, at its 110th meeting on January 13, 2026, under the leadership of the Chief Justice, nominated him alongside 35 others for various judicial positions.
