Classroom Collapses on Students Writing WAEC Exams in Taraba

Final year students of Government Secondary School, Namnai in Gasol local government area of Taraba State, on Wednesday escaped death when a classroom building where they were writing WAEC examination collapsed following a heavy downpour.

The students and teachers, including supervisors and corps members serving in the school were trapped in the collapsed classrooms and it took hours of efforts by residents of the community to rescue them.

Some of the students, including males and females, sustained various degrees of injuries while some had fractures on the legs, hands and arms.

A resident, Alhaji DanAzumi Lauris told media that the classrooms collapsed on the second set of the students as the first set had finished their exams and left.

DanAzumi explained that the incident occurred at about 6pm on Wednesday, few minutes after the students began the exams when heavy rainfall accompanied by wind storm started in the town.
