The Defence Headquarters says additional clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing in Benisheikh, Borno State, following a terrorist attack on troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kaia.
DHQ, in a statement by its spokesperson, Michael Onoja, said troops repelled the coordinated attack on the brigade headquarters around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The DHQ said the attackers attempted to breach the military installation but were forced to withdraw after troops responded with “courage, professionalism, and superior firepower.”
It also confirmed the deaths of some soldiers in the attack, including the commanding officer, Oseni Braimah.

“Regrettably, the encounter resulted in the loss of a few brave and gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” it added.
The DHQ stated that follow-up operations now concentrate on tracking fleeing insurgents and preventing their regrouping in surrounding areas.
