Cole Palmer Smashes Premier League Penalties Record

Cole Palmer has become the most dependable penalty-taker in Premier League history, changing the course of the league’s history.

Palmer coolly scored two penalties in Chelsea’s exciting 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, extending his streak to 12 goals from 12 attempts.

This accomplishment surpasses that of the great Yaya Toure, who scored all 11 of Manchester City’s penalties during his storied career.

When he reflected on his accomplishment, Palmer remarked, “It’s a privilege to contribute to this team, and it’s surreal to break a record held by someone like Yaya Toure.” However, I must remain focused and perform my duties for Chelsea.

Since making his Premier League debut in 2010, Toure’s record has remained undefeated. When Nick Pope saved Ivan Toney’s eleventh penalty attempt in April 2023, he nearly equalled it but was unsuccessful.

This is in line with a statement posted on the Premier League website on Monday.

Despite Toney’s redemption by scoring a penalty later in the same game, the elusive record remained intact—until Palmer played exceptionally well.

Raul Jimenez of Fulham, who has scored all eight of his Premier League penalties; Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford; and Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest, who have also kept perfect records with seven goals apiece, are now Palmer’s closest rivals.

Another is former Premier League player Ruben Neves on 8 and Dimitar Berbatov on 9.

Palmer has contributed to Chelsea in ways that go well beyond his heroics on penalties.

In just 48 Premier League games for the Blues, he has scored two goals versus Spurs, bringing his total to 50 goals and assists (33 goals, 17 assists).

No other team in the sport has accomplished this feat more quickly than Mohamed Salah (46 games), Andrew Cole (43 games), and Erling Haaland (39 games).
