Colombian President Gustavo Petro has accused the United States of violating the country’s sovereignty and killing a local fisherman during a recent anti-drug operation in the Caribbean.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Petro alleged that “US government officials have committed murder and violated our sovereignty in our territorial waters.” He said the victim, identified as Alejandro Carranza, “had no ties to drug traffickers and his daily activity was fishing.”

According to the president, Carranza was killed in a US military strike on his boat in September while he was fishing in Colombian waters. Petro also shared video testimony from Carranza’s family, who confirmed the incident and insisted he was not involved in illegal activity.
