Shohely Akhter, a cricket player from Bangladesh, has been banned from all cricket for five years after confessing to five violations of the ICC’s anti-corruption policy, according to the sport’s governing body.

At the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023, Akhter went up to a fellow Bangladeshi player and paid her £13,000 ($16,000) to be run out.

Akhter was reported by the anonymous player, who did not participate in the competition.

The head of the women’s wing and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Najmul Abedin Fahim, called Akhter’s actions “unfortunate.”

“We have zero tolerance in this regard and are trying hard to prevent fixing at all levels of Bangladesh cricket,” Fahim explained.

Akhter, 36, is a spinner who has participated in two ODIs and 13 T20 matches for her nation. In 2022, she played her final game for Bangladesh.

Akhter also acknowledged delaying or hindering the investigation into her actions, which was one of the allegations.
