An Ogun State court on Tuesday adjourned the manslaughter trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, after the prosecution requested more time to obtain legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Kayode is standing trial before Justice Olufunmilayo Semofun on charges that include manslaughter. When proceedings resumed, prosecuting counsel Richard Nijiwe informed the court that four witnesses had been prepared to testify in the matter. He identified them as officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), the Police, and a medical doctor, but noted that the medical doctor was absent.

Nijiwe further stated that the prosecution intended to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP through the Office of the Attorney General of the State for legal advice, and subsequently applied for an adjournment.

The charges are related to a collision between Anthony Joshua’s Lexus SUV and a stationary truck on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos–Ibadan Motorway.

Two of Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, were killed in the crash. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Joshua was later discharged.

Defence counsel Olalekan opposed the request, arguing that three of the prosecution’s witnesses were already present in court and that the matter had been scheduled for a definite hearing.

In reply, the prosecuting counsel stressed that manslaughter, one of the offences in the charge, carries a possible life sentence and described the matter as an incident-related case, stating that proper legal guidance was required. He proposed an adjournment until March.

The defence objected to the length of the request, describing it as excessive.

After considering submissions from both sides, Justice Semofun adjourned the matter to February 25 for hearing.
