Court Orders Imran Khan Hospital Transfer

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered that jailed former prime minister Imran Khan be transferred to a hospital for medical examinations after his lawyers raised concerns over his health condition.

Justice Shahid Waheed ruled on Tuesday that the 73-year-old politician will be moved within two days to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical checks. Khan has remained in prison since 2023 after being convicted in corruption-related cases.

The court’s decision followed a petition filed by Khan’s legal team, who argued that he required proper medical attention. His family and lawyers have previously said the former prime minister has suffered serious vision problems, claiming he has lost most of the sight in his right eye. Khan received eye treatment at a hospital earlier this year.

Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were sentenced late last year to 17 years in prison in a corruption case. The former cricket captain has faced several legal proceedings since his removal from office, including cases linked to corruption and other allegations.

He served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 until 2022, when his government was removed through a parliamentary no-confidence vote during a political crisis involving his administration and the country’s powerful military establishment.

Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have consistently rejected the charges against him, describing the cases as politically motivated.

His arrest in 2023 led to nationwide demonstrations by supporters, with some incidents turning violent and resulting in hundreds of arrests. Since then, Khan’s legal battles and imprisonment have remained a major issue in Pakistan’s political scene, with his supporters continuing to demand his release.
